I got jumped by the same BMW S1000 yesterday while out on my 959. He had about a 1/4 mile lead before I really got going and I caught him four corners later and went around him on the outside and tucked in for the drag race to the next corner. I was using the quick shifter and pinging off the rev limiter and he was able to hang onto my wheel but unable to come around me up to about 140 mph where I rolled off. Below 140 mph I don't think there is any disadvantage relative to the literbikes, beyond that they will have an advantage but it's not huge. The 959 is not slow, BSB Racer Michael Rutter posted his lap times on all of the modern sportbikes at Donnington Park and he was only a few seconds slower on the 959 than on the fastest of the current crop of literbikes.
Full disclosure: that wasn't me.
by the way... how confident are you on the new black top? there is a gloss that doesn't inspire me to ride as hard and fast as I am used to.
I hope you're having a good riding season,
