How cool would it be to have a color display on the 959.

Inspired by the idea, I ordered a used 1199 base model instrumentation unit on Ebay.
From what I read in the 899 forum thread about this conversion, 1199 dash conversion? - Ducati 899 Panigale Forum
the best match for this experiment is the 1199 base model instrumentation unit. The more premium 1199 model lineup instrumentation is designed to adjust suspension settings from the instrument which is reported to cause additional compatibility issues.
Here is a link to a post from another thread that has some relevant video about the conversion. Ducati 959 Panigale Forum - View Single Post - What did you do to your Ducati 959 Panigale today?
WARNING: This mod is probably a bad idea. But, I will give it a shot anyway.
Known compatibility issues include inaccurate total mileage display. The 1199 unit will continue counting total miles from where the instrument last counted, be that at zero for a new unit, or whatever number a used unit last counted. The reports from 899 owners who have done this state that when the original instrument in reinstalled, accurate total miles are displayed since that number is stored in another location and syncs properly with the OEM unit.
Additionally, there is no way to turn off a yellow error code on an unknown device and yellow engine warning light. Check out the video in the links above.
