Hi,

Has anyone seen this on a 959. It was found at he 24K desmo service. My mechanic was concerned when he found this wear/discoloration on the cam lobes.
Ducati Australia confirm that I "have nothing to worry about". A cam specialist says its typical of high performance engines and is the start of serious wear and needs careful checking.

Anyone else experienced this?

to me thats past a typical HP cam wear, and even streak is normal. That actually looks like pitting. If you run a fingernail over it is it smooth?

That cam will be gone within 5000 miles and put very fine metal all over your engine. So get that fixed asap.

I have a pic of mine @ 30k, I didn't have that much wear. I agree with the pitting comment above. Mine was worn, but didn't look that DEEP, if that makes any sense.

Mine made it to 80k before I wrecked it. I had sent the oil in for analysis and it was 100% ok, nothing looked off, no excessive levels of anything. I always used Amsoil 20W-50.
