959: Twin Stacked Side Exhaust?

Un-oh, looks like the 959 may NOT be getting the gorgeous underslung exhaust like the 899.

In response to creeping regulations on polution and noise, certain markets will receive 959's with a twin stacked exhaust on the right side.

For the JDM market the 899 was sold with a 1990 esque long pipe, but it's thought that this time around the different exhaust will not be exclusive to Japan.

It looks likely that Ducati may be forced to put a large catalytic converter under the crank case, where the current exhaust lay, in order to meet Euro 04 standards.

hey thats interesting, he looks dressed the same as the guy in the original photoset, he looks the same size and the bike looks the same... more importantly the road and time of day look right...

so if this picture is from the original spy set, why wasn't it shown until now?

Think this may be a different spy set. The armor may be the same but the exhaust isn't and most people do wear the same armor from time to time.
Please don't let this exhaust be the standard. Looked into the source and the twin stacked was installed to meet the Japanese noise regulations. Don't think an international company will change out the exhaust for everyone just because one country has stricter noise regulations.

Ducati was forced to do the same thing on the new Multi in order to meet Euro 04 regulations...

The facebook source says that it looks like the exhaust won't be just for Japan...

That would make sense since they have yet to show us any more thing s on the 959... having updates done through spy shots helps to keep the hype around while we wait.

no one is really sure where that photo came from. It looks like the guy is pulling out of the Ducati factory, to me that would indicate the picture came from Ducati. almost looks like a security cam or something.

Still hoping they're wrong even if the Multi was modified internationally just for the Euro market.

That`s actually a good point since judging from the angle it seems this photo was taken from at least a height of 8-10 feet up.
what I have known is that

US Market will have same exhaust system like 899

Euro. Asian countries will have up-style exhaust system because of the Euro 4 regulation.

if you want to change the exhaust, you also need to change the under cover too

Do you know about Australia? Also how confident are you in your source?

I guess all will be revealed in 3 days :grin2:
Good point on exhaust being the same as the 899 since come to think about it, folks were pleased with it, and the 959 is more of an improved 899. Best that they stick with what ever is most important in changing.
I prefer the underslung exhaust, but its not really the most important thing to me. Is there any difference between the two in terms of performance?
Lower and more centralized weight from underslung and less of a chance for your bags to accidentally touch the exhaust.

^ Very true.

Those going on long trips will greatly appreciate that with the bags they'll have to carry, although that should end up accounting for a small number of owners within this community.
