Comfort seat good for long rides?

30402 Views 33 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  DarR
I ended up doing about 200 miles total today with a buddy who picked up his new 1299S yesterday. The last hour the seat was not feeling too great. For those who have purchased the comfort seat, is it a lot better for long days of riding? I'm contemplating between purchasing the comfort seat or getting one custom made by a local shop that specializes in custom seats.

Well, I am a keen cyclist. I am hoping that if I can spend up to eight hours on a hard racing cycle saddle any time on the standard Ducati saddle will feel like luxury :)

It's been several years since I cycled a lot (longer distances rather than racing). I did 200 miles in 2 days (STP - Seattle to Portland). The seat time was something that you had to get used to. Is it the same with the Panigale seat? Or is the comfort seat on the Panigale more necessary for longer rides because of higher speeds, etc?

There's only one thing I know 100% for sure: Me asking this question does NOT make me too old to ride a Panigale!!!

I didn't even put 1 mile on my 959 before I changed out the the stocker to the DP comfort seat. A must do for those who want to do long days in the saddle.

How do you find the DP comfort seat? I ask because there is a local place here (Rich's seats) that has an excellent reputation. So, I was thinking of pinging them to find out how much they'd charge to do a custom seat (which would be specific to me)...

Not quite sure where I read this but memorable nonetheless. Heard that the seat will get more comfortable once you break it in but I believe you're more likely to break your butt first before the seat gives. :grin2:

Sweet! Good recommendation. I plan on doing a lot of riding so that will be an investment i'll make sure to follow through with.

Had this been a standard practice with you on other bikes?

Hey Rucks,

Do you have a link to the comfort seat? Is it the same one as the 899?

Has anyone checked out this one? It's just a seat cover. And if you get the luimoto, it looks like some work to install it. Plus then you still only have one seat. But it looks pretty cool:

I was nearly in tears my first decent ride. I swapped bikes with my wife and her 899 seat felt softer, but here bike also had 3,500k on it. I've done over 2,000k and it does feel a smidge softer.

The comfort seat is the same one as the 1299 version. I love this seat and would recommend this as the first important upgrade to anyone!

Hi Rusks22, How much height does it add over stock?

I just installed mine. I've sat on the bike with the comfort seat but not ridden it yet. For added height, it's hard for me to say. I'm guessing an extra inch. What do you think rucks?

That's good. Thanks. An extra inch is fine. I was concerned as some of the 1299Panigale forum guys were stating +3" ??? They also stated a forward lean which is tougher on the boys. Any comments on that?

I can't say anything yet. I haven't even had a chance to ride my 959 since I installed the comfort seat because I've been sick. I really hate it (being sick) and have been tempted to go for a short ride anyways since the weather's been dry (which isn't always the case in rainy Seattle). But I also don't want to end up doing anything stupid (like crashing because I'm run down).

In the menatime, maybe one of the guys that has had a comfort seat for awhile can comment on the angle. @rucks22
Riding my wife's 959 for the first time yesterday (logged about 40 miles I think) I ordered her a comfort seat today. She had said the seat was about the only thing she didnt like (and I had bought her a Corbin for her GSX-R) so I sprung for one.

I did notice what I thought was a pronounced lean forward on the factory seat. Ill be interested to see if the comfort seat has that too.
