I was looking at different options to improve the cooling on my 959. I mostly ride on the streets, when I get stuck in traffic in the summer the heat gets wild. I know there's no much I can do as this is Ducati signature, but a few degrees help. I'm already running water with Water Wetter. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the following items?

-Samco hoses

-Line Cooler by Ducabike

-Race water pump steel wheels (this is more for reliability as the plastic ones are know to break and destroy engines) but I wonder if this would reduce the power of the bike since they are heavier to spin.

-There a company (MONZATECH MWP) that makes a kit to complete remove the mechanical water pump and gears (stated above) and put in an electric water pump that can be completely programed to fit you application. This kit is made for the 1299 but I don't see why it won't fit the 959, the problem is the $1,300 price tag. Apparently it increases power since it removes the mechanical pump.

Hey bro,

Are you referring to keeping the heat low to the engine or keeping the heat low thats coming to you from under the seat?

From your suggestions I think you are referring to the engine cooling?

Having the same heat issues here with my 2016 959. I do aggressive back road runs and hammer it and this bike get's really high coolant temps. With summer mornings in the high 80 F to low 90 F range, I am seeing coolant temperatures in the 207 F to 212 F range while moving fast, typically around 90 - 100 mph. This is way hotter than any of my Jap bikes run and even higher than my new Aprilia RSV4 which is known to run hot. The fan kicks in around 217 F and will hold it there, so it doesn't get super hot when stopped, just concerned about the temps while running hard at speed.

I've had this machine for over 6 years but don't remember seeing it get this hot in the summer, maybe it did but I just didn't pay any attention. Comfort level is Ok, I wear full leathers always and keep the bike moving, no traffic stops.

Ping on this heat issue, really thinking about selling my '16 959 off as it runs so freakin hot in the summer months. Saw 214 F coming back from a hard run the other day with ambient temp around 88 F, this was cruising at around 88-90 mph, no reason this bike should run so hot at that speed. Runs about 26 F higher coolant temp than any of my other bikes under same conditions, this is probably my first and last Ducati if they can't properly engineer a cooling system.

I'm considering selling mine too, I don't even ride mine unless is past 7pm because of how hot it get and that point what is the point of having a bike.
Base out of the research I've done the Samco hoses reduce heat about 3°-5° and the Line Cooler by Ducabike are supposed to reduce heat by 5°-8°, but that combination would set you back $800. I'm planning to do it in a few month when my Desmo service is due, I'll report back.

Optimally I would love to install the MONZATECH MWP electric water pump, it supposed to reduce heat by 20°-30°, but the $1,300 price tag does not look appealing. I don't mind doing it but not on a 959, when I get a 1199SL or a 1299SL I would give it a try.

Dukiboy and Forewarned, what coolant temps are you guys seeing when running hard in mid 80F to low 90 F ambient conditions? I ride mine no later than 9:00 AM in the summer here in North Texas and I'm off the road by 10:00 AM in any case. I can't even imaging riding this thing in 100 + F conditions.in late afternoon. The weird thing is mine doesn't go beyond about 217 F when stopped and idling in traffic, the fan seem to keep things in check, it just doesn't cool well when running hard at higher speeds with lots of throttle coming off the corners. So my operational temperature range seems to be about 212 F to 217 F in the summer heat. I took my '16 ZX-10R for a spin this morning and it's running 25 F cooler at all speeds but then again KHI sized the radiator properly.

Some are saying replacing the standard 50/50 coolant mix with Watter Wetter makes a noticeable difference in coolant temps but I have to wonder about the corrosion resistance and effect on water pump seal life not to mention freezing temperature of the coolant in winter months.
