Making a Deal... best practice?

Hello guys and gals. I'm about to walk into my local Ducati dealership and negotiate on a new White 959. Outside of Tax, Title and License fees, is there anything that's negotiable? Also, are there things to look out for that aren't one of those 3 that I shouldn't be paying for? Help is greatly appreciated! :grin2:

Freight and Setup. In my opinion, you shouldn't have to pay them. In my case, I said I'd pay full msrp ($14,995 for red) + sales tax, title, license fees, documentation. And they went for it. I know some folks on here have said that they have gotten better deals. Some people have said that they have gotten worse deals.

I think it helps if they know you are a serious buyer. In my case I got preapproved from my credit union before I negotiated the deal. And if there are multiple Ducati dealerships that you can purchase from then it doesn't hurt to check final pricing at some of them. Also, I think talking pricing in person after you have test rode the bike there is more effective also. I don't think most Ducati dealerships want to talk price too specifically on the phone with someone they've never met in person.

But then again as some people have said, the dealer does need to make some kind of profit. And you will want to be able to go to a dealership for service, parts, etc that you like the people and they like you. So, in my opinion I'd rather pay $200 or $300 more to buy from a dealer that I like more. Especially because that is only 2% of the purchase price of this bike...

I got my white 959 panigale for $14,295 (-$1,000 from the MSRP). I paid $15.8k in total.
It depends where you're buying the bike. I apparently bought one of the last white ones available in the MidWest until at least April. I reserved mine in January and I got hit with a dealer markup of $1000, so grand total of $17,333 after 5% sales tax/licensing/etc. I also wanted to maintain a good relationship with the dealer, as it's the only dealership within 100+ miles and it's where I'll be doing all of my services.

If you think you'll have negotiating power, then by all means use it, but you're bidding a highly demanded model and might not have much wiggle room.

I hope you get a deal. It's one **** of a bike.
A lot of people have this thought that freight and setup aren't real. THEY ARE. I work for a Ducatti dealer, I should know. That said, as with any other purchase there is room to maneuver in anything my advice to you would be to try to work the price on the unit itself as much as possible. 500-1000 off on a Duc is AMAZING considering the almost non existent rebates that are out there on the programs they offer for the 959.

Good luck!
$15,500 total drive out price on a Red one. I had to work three different dealerships on the phone though to get the price I wanted.

BTW, this is one sweet machine and well worth the price of admission, best of luck making your deal.
What if your not worried about the purchase price but you want to work in dealer credit for things such as gear or parts? I know some places with give you store credit at a higher price cause more often then not you will be spending more of your money with them as well...
Hahaha!

When I first saw this pop up I was like, "WTF is @Dingo buying a second 959 for!?!?"

RESURECTED, albeit with a valid suggestion

To @Perferd, I'd just echo what @avigil said:

You have to get your monies worth, so just make sure what you pay extra is worth the gear/parts your receiving. Unless you're getting an insane deal on Akros/Terms, I would try to push negotiations since riding season is ending and 2017s are coming soon (or just wait until then to get new one or closeout deals on '16s). From your other post, I would just aim for MSRP + your tax rate as a max; anything you save, you have a choice to spend however you want.
If I had to do this again, I would negotiate parts not price. Eg: Include full Akra installed etc. Work from there.

Was that just taxes then? I say $1000 off MSRP is a great deal
Currently shopping for my first Ducati.
What's the current (Mar 2018) dealer invoice (cost) on the white 959?

Colorado dealer sticker price for AWS 959 is $15,695.00. +8% sales tax gets it to $17k.

DMV adds another 500$. Dealer garbage is probably another $500-1000 but potentially negotiable.

As @DarR mentioned in this thread, you're probably only going to make the most value in negotiating parts that the dealer can lose margin on, but the cost of the bike is already set unless they have a reason to get rid of it (eg. end of the season).

So $14,295 + freight + set-up + sales tax (TX is 6.5%?) and DMV = $15,800
Was the bike new or demo?
