Purchased my 959 today. I chose red. It was the first 959 purchased from the dealership that I bought it at. Tomorrow it's headed to the paint shop to get opti-coat applied. I'll leave it there through the weekend to cure and pick it up on Monday. It sure was hard walking out of the dealership without riding it home. But I know it's the right thing to do to be patient and get the coating applied first. Gives me time to try to figure out the computer onboard it. :)

I just ordered a NRC Tail Tidy. I'm really curious/excited to see how the opti-coat is going to turn out. I might have to stop by the paint shop tomorrow afternoon to check it out.

The last picture is of the unused kickstand puck that remains after my 959 was pulled off the showroom floor!

You're making the right decision with the opti. The paint blemishes very easily. I should have done that with mine bike. I frankly didn't expect the finish to be so fragile. Enjoy. The NRC install is very easy. I downloaded the 2 page instruction from there site in did it will minimal drama. The center bolt on my kit did not fit, nothing 5 minutes at the hardware store couldn't fix.

Congrats.

Was that because you didn't have the kit made for the 959 specifically?

Congrats! I think you own the first red 959 on here.

The paint is weak due to ducati not using a clear coat over the paint. Smart move on your end to get opti coat done. Just make sure you get the paint cleaned properly before the opti coat seals over.

The box on my kit said 959/1299 but when I called NRC, they mentioned that some early kits for the 959 did not have the longer bolt. They indicated to me that they have since corrected that. I'm sure you'll be fine.
My kit should arrive in a couple days. I ordered it off of NRC's website. I just sent an email to NRC to ask them if the bolt will be the correct size for the 959. I'll let you know if it has the correct size bolt for the 959.

I'm curious if you could get it done now. The shop that mine is being done at said that they would detail it before they applied the opti-coat even though it was being taken straight from the dealership to make sure it's perfect before they apply the opti-coat. I'm wondering if they repair the blemishes in your if that would work. I just had to ask.

BTW, the guy from the paint shop said that he's going to be stopping by his shop tomorrow and that I can pick it up. I'm super excited to be able to ride it on Saturday and Sunday (before the Superbowl). I feel like a kid who opened up his Christmas present but has to wait to be able to play with it!!!
