Hello,

I have an appointment to get my bike on the dyno this Tuesday, and they asked me if I wanted to get only a HP reading, or HP and TQ. They said the dyno runs to also get TQ figures costs extra as they need to remove fairings.

Why do they need to remove fairings to get TQ readings and not for HP?

Would the HP readings be the same, or are the numbers a bit fake if you hook it up to the dyno without removing the fairings?

Is it even worth getting TQ figures? I'm doing a before and after for stock vs slip on + filter + Rapid Bike. Will I even see movements in my TQ figures? I know my car saw big changes in the TQ figures, but have never modded/dyno'd a bike before.

The dealer is closed today and tomorrow, otherwise I'd just ask them.

Cheers!

They would provide you with a HP vs wheelspeed if you don't get a tach signal.

To calculate torque, you need both horsepower and engine speed. Engine speed, they'll need to hook on a probe on one of the ignition spark wires which requires getting underneath the fairings.

If they send you the raw data, you can estimate the engine speed (and thus torque) from just HP and wheelspeed, given that you know tire outer diameter and which gear the pull was done on.

Thanks for the response! I'll just have them do the TQ figures themselves. It's not that much more.

Why don't you take the fairings off yourself and ride to the dealer without them? Then they have nothing to charge you extra for.

Very true... I haven't taken off the fairing myself yet, and won't have time to learn/do it myself as I'm stuck studying. Will do it when I go back for the second run though!

What's the extra cost?

As extra information, either left or right fairing works as there's an ignition coil on either side. See attached. There's less-ish important stuff (regulator, battery, fusebox) on the left if you want to take one off (right has ECU, abs pump, coolant cap and overfill bottle).

It's something like $60 vs $90...

That's probably at their normal rate for the 10 or so mins for use of tools/space to remove the fairings and to put it back on.
